This is the time for Misskomik Workshop Manga discusses the tools that support in development Comic/Manga creation on topic Traditional And Digital Manga Drawing Media.

As the era pass and technology develops, digital art are created. From an application(software) specifically allowing more diverse technique to draw and color in computer devises, with a variety of choices. And followed by Pen-Tablet or a special gadget like seen in the image below, to get more practical.

FLEXIBILITY IN DIGITAL ART

-No need to buy traditional drawing equipment such as paper, pencil, ink, drawing, pen/pencil color, and etc.
-No need to have a scanner.
-Tracing is easier (flexible when you need a reference to draw).
-Fast editing process.
-Easier to add texture and effect to your artwork (flexibility to use Pattern/Tone especially for a comic/manga project).
-Easily create backup files.

But, if your question "Will it do the process faster and also the outcome better?", not entirely!

Personally, one of Misskomik's student takes a long time to complete a drawing digitally. However, she can complete a figure drawing traditionally very much quicker despite that she prefers the digital media. This is because the accuracy when you pay attention to the references when drawing digitally and manually is different. Go try out and feel the difference on your own~

Misskomik personally hasn't yet entirely learn to draw digitally. But Misskomik would say, the outcome using Digital Drawing Tools aren't comparable to traditional drawing.
That is also a perception of a Professional (especially) Mangaka artist.
Particularly for Sketching and Inking, they are still working on traditional. This is for consideration the sense of art value in their work.

Is Digital Art a lesser media compared to Traditional?

That is not the intention of this topic! The discussion above is not to underestimate function in using Digital Drawing media as you read in the next title~

COMBINE TRADITIONAL & DIGITAL DRAWING MEDIA

If you consider an art value in your drawings, it is recommended that you manage work in both. Use Digital Drawing Tools for editing and finishing.
For Coloring and work on Comic/Manga project such as arranging panels of course will get the more accurate straight line, text narration, and using a texture with screentone is much easier and certainly less cost compared to buying the physical screentone (that requires high budget).
So let's say, try to combine an art with practical.

What are the significant differences in an Art Value if doing Traditional or Digital Drawing?

In this case, indeed the essential is determined by the experience of artists who often practice, with the way to draw traditionally or digitally.

So what is special about Traditional Drawing?

The drawing Misskomik use Digital Drawing tools.
In the first image, it is still unedited.
Second image, is the polish result if prioritizes an art value.
Still less from the aimed result, and also quite complicated when compared to Manual Drawing. But please note that Misskomik is still inexperienced in digital drawing and personally finds it challenging.

With Traditional media, lines can be processed to be thick or as thin as possible. And the line can also be processed to create the effects of natural luminosity in environments or hair or plants. Thin/thick can change significantly in a short/long of one lining. While the technique of carefully stroking the lines.

In Digital, you can use layer effects and different brushes for an easier process. The technique of creating natural luminosity basically depends on your patience and control over pen..." quotes from one of Misskomik's students (༎ຶꈊ༎ຶ╬)

Below is a Misskomik Favorite Artist, 'Kai – khaoskai.com'

Kai excels in both digital and traditional art media. Even the mainly does almost everything on the latter as you see. Amazing, right!

Despite the pros and cons, you are not pressured to debate which one's the best and are, and of course free to decide whichever media you find most enjoyable and comfortable in. After all, Digital and Traditional media both equally require as much hard work and love put into it.

Well, for those of you who are interested in drawing traditional media, on article Manga Traditional Drawing Equipment including explanation how to use them, whether a high-budget one or a cheaper option.
